Endodontic Micro Surgery
(‘Apicectomy’)
Occasionally, even after the completion of careful endodontic treatment, a minor surgical procedure known as apicectomy can be required. The most common complicating factors are:
- Difficult and complicated root canal anatomy
- Missed root canals. (Fortunately, the use of operating microscopes at Bramcote can allow us to see deep inside your tooth and identify these areas).
- A leaking filling or crown. No matter how well your root canal treatment has been completed in the past, if there is a leaking restoration bacteria can re-infect the root canal system.
- Recurrent decay. A root treated tooth needs looking after just like every other tooth.
Is there an alternative to surgery?
Removal of the tooth becomes the only solution. Your own dentist can explain to you alternatives and all treatment options such as the use of dental implants .
